The creek that runs through the ranch is named after an old-time cowboy, Wilse Naard, who came to the North Dakota Badlands on a a cattle drive from Texas. He arrived in the late 1800's and built a cabin near the creek. Not much else is known about Wilse Naard except that he left his namesake to the creek. Naard Creek Ranch is rich in ranching and rodeo heritage. The Olsons homesteaded on Naard Creek in 1900. Third and fourth generations of this family still own and operate the ranch. Naard Creek Ranch is a treasure of nature. This cattle ranch is located in the beautiful Badlands with the magnificent backdrop of the Killdeer Mountains, all of which is situated in remote southwest North Dakota.
